Well, there’s what I’d like to do in summer, and what I can do in summer. There is some overlap, but not as much as I’d like! What I’d like to do in summer is travel a little bit, spend time going to beaches or camping or swimming in lakes, having picnics and enjoy evenings having dinner outside on a patio. But as I’ve got allergic asthma, what I can do in summer very much depends on what my lungs and respiratory system will allow me to withstand. If it’s a bad pollen year or a bad fire year, sometimes I’m sequestered inside as close as I can possibly to get to an air purifier, sometimes wearing a mask and taking so much medication it’s all I can do to be awake for any of it! That said, last year was a little bit better (this year so far is worse again, but we shall see) and I was able to spend more time outside than usual, albeit still avoiding the hottest part of the day as heat and increased pollen are still to be avoided!
Mostly I enjoy seeing things grow in the garden. I start planting seeds as soon as spring hints at arriving, and if things go well, I’m planting things out by May and things are starting to do interesting stuff by the beginning of July! I’m slowly trying to add perennials to the garden as each year goes by, hopefully eventually there will be a lot that comes back on its own and less I need to plant from seed each year. But I love whatever we do get, and last year we had a riot of flowers and tomatoes! Didn’t do so well with peas, beans, lettuce, arugula, basil, spinach or other veggies, but hey. I’ll take whatever grows!
What about you guys? What do you enjoy doing in the summer where you live?

Yes,I am try to add plants that come back as well. As much as I love to garden it get so sad when you pull it all out in fall.
I generally just don’t rip it out because by then I’m just DONE with the garden for the season, but then everything slowly goes brown and squidgy, which isn’t much better! I’m enjoying the magic of plants coming back, it’s a different experience of the garden, and I like it! Adding more that will keep coming back.
I love the beach and like to vacation on it. It isn’t totally up to me so I don’t get to stay that long. I love fresh produce, only grow a little because I hate to weed, I let the Farmer’s Market people do that part for me 🙂
Haha! Yes, weeding is a challenge – some days I like it because it keeps my hands busy, others it’s just a slog!
Ah, allergies are a real problem for me , too. If the local council have been out cutting grass, night time turns into a cacophony of sound. Snorting, sneezing, coughing, gasping. Fun times… another reason to hate the warmer months.
Oh man, that is rough! My allergies are more attached to my breathing – I do get itchy eyes and sinus pressure as well when it’s entering allergy season, but not so much the sneezing and coughing. More like my lungs are tightening, if that makes sense. But all not fun, darn grass!
