TOP TEN TUESDAY | NON-BOOKISH FREEBIE

Apparently I get to make a list of…. well, anything I want! As decisions are not my strong suit, I’m starting this well in advance (it’s early July now) so I’ve got lots of time to figure something out!

I think I’m going to go with a list of my favourite things to do other than reading – some are things I’m enjoying now, others are ones I pick up in the winter.

  1. Gardening – this one is obviously seasonal, but from about March through to September I like growing things and puttering about seeing how the plants are doing. Not such a big fan of weeding, though that seems to be a major theme!
  2. Nature Walks With My Kid – my kid goes to nature school and knows far more about living things that grow and live in this area than I do, so it’s wonderful going for walks and learning along the way!
  3. Writing – I don’t do this as much as I’d like, but I do enjoy keeping a journal and occasionally writing about particular things I’m mulling over.
  4. Blogging – I’m putting this down separate from writing because to me they are different activities. Blogging is a structured form of writing, and it’s about books and reading, so there’s a specific focus to it.
  5. Making Food With My Kid – we’ve got some things we like to make regularly, like pancakes, but also I’m hoping we’ll start branching out more as my kid is learning to cook more alone! (Very proud!)
  6. Crocheting – I do this more in cooler months, but I enjoy making little things like bookmarks and toys for my kid.
  7. Taking Photos – I like taking photos of animals and insects, but mostly (predictably) my kid.
  8. Knitting – I haven’t done this one in a while as I’m crocheting more lately, but I am thinking about going back to it and doing both.
  9. Going to the Library – this is a weekly activity my kid and I love doing together. We both like exploring the shelves, chatting to the librarians and finding some new books to curl up with when we get home!
  10. Crafting With My Kid – this is a variable activity as the specific activity can change. At the moment we’re making mini things out of modelling clay, but sometimes we sew or draw or colour or paint…. whatever we fancy!
  11. Playing Board and Card Games With My Family – I  love playing games with my husband and kid. We’ve just got into Labyrinth, but also Uno, Skip-Bo, Outfoxed, Snakes and Ladders… there are lots of favourites!
  12. Watching Mystery Shows – amongst other things! I enjoy watching TV shows, particularly when I’m stressed or overwhelmed. British mysteries are my top genre and I’m always on the lookout for clever and interesting ones. Recently it’s been Grantchester, Annika and Code of Silence.

So that’s my top 12, apparently, list of things I like to do other than reading. What about you guys? Did I include any of your favourite activities? Any you also do seasonally?
