LINK-UP | IT’S MONDAY WHAT ARE YOU READING?

Another busy and warm week here, but a fun one! It was far too hot through the middle of the week, and because I’m not good with heat I was hiding from it a good chunk of the time. But still managed to get some gardening done and spend a little time enjoying the outdoors as it cooled towards the end of the week. We also had some excitement in the form of an unexpected visitor – a black bear that wandered through our property and came right up to our front door! It’s the closest I’ve ever been to one, and it was a pretty amazing sight – though also a bit scary! They’re common here, but I’ve only seen them from a distance before, but this was rather close! Apparently there are a couple of them wandering the neighbourhood, so there are frequent texts zooming back and forth between neighbours when one is spotted heading towards someone else’s yard! That was far more exciting than my reading this week, but here it is all the same.

Just Shelved

An Elderly Lady Is Up to No Good by Helene Tursten (translated by Marlaine Delargy)

I read this one because it was free in my Audible Plus Catalogue until this week, and I wanted to give it a try. It’s a short one, but interesting. It subverts some assumptions and stereotypes, and is a little unsettling!

Currently Reading

Grounding by Lulah Ellender
The Dark Secret (Graphic Novel #4) by Tui T. Sutherland
The Running Hare by John Lewis-Stempel

The Japanese Lover by Isabel Allende
We’ve Got This by Eliza Hull, ed.

I’ve only made a little bit of progress on the books I was already reading going into this week because I found We’ve Got This at the library and pretty much just dropped everything to read it. It’s a selection of essays by disabled parents, and it’s just wonderful.

Up Next

Some of Us Just Fall by Polly Atkin
And I Shall Have Some Peace There by
The Hidden Witch  (Witch Boy 2) by Molly Knox Ostertag
The Midwinter Witch (Witch Boy 3) by Molly Knox Ostertag

Better by Arianna Rebolini
Garden to Save the World by Joe Clark
Fox & I by Catherine Raven
See Me Rolling by Lottie Jackson

Still not sure what I’ll be reading next, as usual, but there’s a chance it could be any of these! Probably, based on how much I’m enjoying We’ve Got This, it’ll be See Me Rolling – another book I found at the library!

That’s my week! Anyone read any good books this week? Have you read any of these?

A weekly post that encourages bloggers to share what they have read in the past week, what they’re currently reading and books they’ve recently added to their TBRs. Originally started by Sheila at Book Journey, it is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date. I also link up with The Sunday Salon post each week hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz (and sometimes include some of her content prompts).

Yeah, it’s definitely a thing to see such a huge animal just appear in your yard! So far they have been completely uninterested in and unfazed by us, totally chill just doing their bear rounds of the neighbourhood looking for things to eat. We’re super careful not to leave any food outside, so there isn’t much for them to get into, so they kind of amble through. So far, though I’m very aware that they’re wild animals and therefore unpredictable and could do some damage, so we give them lots of space and try to calmly remove ourselves when we see one!

I really like Isabel Allende. I’m curious to find out how you like this book. I am in LOVE with the cover of The Running Hare! Have fun reading this week!

I haven’t read Allende’s more recent books, but I did read a whole bunch of them when I was in college and loved all of them. If you like Gabriel Garcia Marques or Laura Esquivel you’ll probably like her. She has magical realism tinges in her books, but is so good at creating an incredibly gripping plot with characters who seem to jump off the page. And the atmosphere of her books is top notch. I’d definitely give her a try! Eva Luna and House of the Spirits were my first picks and a great place to start. I hope you’re having a great reading week as well!
