LINK-UP | IT’S MONDAY! WHAT ARE YOU READING?

We’re really into summer here, and it’s been hot and muggy over the last week, making it a little difficult to do much in the afternoon other than sit in the shade and try to move as little as possible! On the plus side the garden is full of life – we’ve got more bees than ever before, at least three different types of butterflies, all kinds of birds and a deer that likes to nibble our raspberry bushes (my kid has named her Muffin). Still not reading all that much because my kid is keeping me pretty busy and we had a visit from my Dad last week which was really nice. Here’s what I did read.

Just Shelved

The List of Suspicious Things by Jennie Godfrey

I didn’t think this one was going to be out until December, but I found it on one of the front shelves at my library so I scooped it up. I couldn’t find an audiobook, so I was thrilled that this allowed me to get my hands on it right away! I loved this book. It’s an interesting mix of a sort of coming-of-age story about some teenagers dealing with family drama, community drama, personal drama and just generally figuring out who and how they want to be. But it’s also intertwined with the more sinister story of the Yorkshire ripper – a serial killer who was preying on young women. It’s brilliantly structured and deeply emotional, well worth a read.

Currently Reading

Grounding by Lulah Ellender
The Dark Secret (Graphic Novel #4) by Tui T. Sutherland
The Running Hare by John Lewis-Stempel
The Japanese Lover by Isabel Allende

Still going with these, picked up The Running Hare from my library book selections once I finished The List of Suspicious Things. Haven’t made much progress in any of them this week, but reading little bits in stolen moments here and there!

DNFed

Nature on the Doorstep by Angela E. Douglas
Through the Garden by Lorna Crozier
Unearthing by Kyo Maclear
Memorial Days by Geraldine Brooks

There’s always the chance I’ll go back to these, but none of them were holding my attention right now. I think I’m most likely to try Unearthed and Memorial Days again, just not the vibe right now. So we’ll see.

Up Next

Some of Us Just Fall by Polly Atkin
And I Shall Have Some Peace There by
The Hidden Witch  (Witch Boy 2) by Molly Knox Ostertag
The Midwinter Witch (Witch Boy 3) by Molly Knox Ostertag

Better by Arianna Rebolini
Garden to Save the World by Joe Clark
Fox & I by Catherine Raven
The Earth in Her Hands by Jennifer Jewell (ed.)

Still have my stack of library books to choose from, as well as a few audiobooks I’m looking forward to trying. Probably won’t read any of these next, knowing me!

That’s it for my week. Running late on this post, so just going to wrap it up here and get it published. Let me know what you’ve been reading and if you’ve read any of these (or want to)!

A weekly post that encourages bloggers to share what they have read in the past week, what they’re currently reading and books they’ve recently added to their TBRs. Originally started by Sheila at Book Journey, it is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date. I also link up with The Sunday Salon post each week hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz (and sometimes include some of her content prompts).

Yeah, I find that sometimes my mind just has trouble settling, and when it does it seems sort of random – not the best book I’ve tried or even the most “me” one, just who knows why? That’s what’s happening for me lately. That plus I’m trying to go the library most weeks and checking out a bunch of books to try rather than purchasing them. Because I’m not committing, I’m not being as picky, and they’re not all exactly what I’m in the mood for! I’m enjoying exploring, though! I hope you find one that does grab you – I hate the feeling of not being able to settle with any of the books I’m trying!
