LINK-UP | IT’S MONDAY! WHAT ARE YOU READING?

This was the first full week of summer vacation, and it’s been good but a little discombobulating because regular routines are up in the air. This means my reading has also been a bit all over the place. Plus all my library holds came in at once, so now I’m drowning in reading options, and that means I’m doing that thing where I don’t know where to start, so I’m picking up and putting down a bunch without really diving into any of them! Here’s what I’ve sampled this week.

Just Shelved

Nada. Started lots; finished none.

Currently Reading

Wings of Fire: The Hidden Kingdom (Graphic Novel #3) by Tui T. Sutherland
Grounding by Lulah Ellender
Why Women Grow by Alice Vincent
Famous Last Words by Gillian McAllister

Memorial Days by Geraldine Brooks
The Japanese Lover by Isabel Allende
Nature on the Doorstep by Angela E. Douglas
Unearthing by Kyo Maclear

I’m sort of reading a whole schwack of books this week – I’ve started a bunch, not really stuck with any, and though I’m enjoying them, the only one I seem to be sticking with is the audiobook I just started listening to – Famous Last Words. Enjoying it so far! Hoping I’ll get back to the others, though I suspect I may have abandoned at least a couple of  them without yet being aware of it…

Up Next

Wolves and Honey by Susan Brind Morrow
Through the Garden by Lorna Crozier
Summer World by Bernd Heinrich
The List of Suspicious Things by Jennie Godfrey

Some of Us Just Fall by Polly Atkin
And I Shall Have Some Peace There by
The Hidden Witch  (Witch Boy 2) by Molly Knox Ostertag
The Midwinter Witch (Witch Boy 3) by Molly Knox Ostertag

The Running Hare by John Lewis-Stempel
Better by Arianna Rebolini
Garden to Save the World by Joe Clark

As I said, all my library holds came in at once, so I’ve got a huge stack of books by my bed waiting for me to read, and some audiobooks as well! I know I won’t finish all of these, but I’m looking forward to trying them out and seeing which stick.

That’s my week in books! What are you guys reading? Have you read any of these, and if so would you recommend them?

A weekly post that encourages bloggers to share what they have read in the past week, what they’re currently reading and books they’ve recently added to their TBRs. Originally started by Sheila at Book Journey, it is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date. I also link up with The Sunday Salon post each week hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz (and sometimes include some of her content prompts).

I have also been dipping into Memorial Days this past week. It’s a sad story but has some truth to it that hits home. She’s a good writer & thinker. I haven’t finished it yet. I lost my dad in March so this book — I can relate to in ways.

I’m so sorry to hear about your Dad. I haven’t read much of it yet – as you say, it is quite sad. But it is well written and I think shares her experience as honestly as possible. She mentions Didion’s Year of Magical Thinking in it, and that’s the only other similar book I’ve read. Different styles and tones, but there is a lot that feels reminiscent of Didion’s book as I read.

I definitely see why you requested all these books—there are so many books that sound promising, including Garden to Save the World; Some of Us Just Fall; Grounding; and Nature on the Doorstep. Good luck at wading through these to find the ones that work for you.

Yes, I wasn’t expecting that they’d mostly be available within a few weeks, normally it’s more staggered! But I figure this way I can read a few chapters of each and narrow down what I’m interested in. Then if it’s all of them, I can read as many as I can and know what to re-borrow in the future! I hope you have a great week as well!

I remember those days of summer schedules versus school schedules. Swear the kids used to want to fill that first week with everything.

So many great-looking books on your list this week. The List of Suspicious Things caught my eye.

Hope you enjoy your reading week.

Yes, it’s an interesting transition as a parent! But we are starting to find our groove – my main focus this summer is trying to involve more time with family and friends, that way there isn’t so much boredom and whining about boredom! lol
