LINK-UP | IT’S MONDAY! WHAT ARE YOU READING?

I skipped last week’s Monday post because I was busy, but I didn’t have a lot to report anyway! It’s been busy here – trying to fit in some last bits of summer fun, a visit from family, and just generally pootling about the garden and the house and spending some quality time with the family. Oh, and another cold, but luckily it wasn’t bad and it’s over now without seeming to have gone into my lungs (yes!!!) so I’m relieved! It’s been pleasant overall. Here’s my last two weeks in reading.

And I Shall Have Some Peace There by Margaret Roach
My Friends by Hisham Matar

I can’t say much about My Friends right now as it’s BookTube Prize reading and I can’t talk about it until judging finals are over (so in October). And I Shall Have Some Peace There was okay, but not great. Had some good moments of introspection and I enjoyed some of her writing about learning to exist in a rural area after a fast-paced city life. But the writing was only middling and parts went on and on and had me skimming, while all the frequent quotes irritated me. So okay, but not one I’d rave about.

Currently  Reading

The Japanese Lover by Isabel Allende
Grounding by Lulah Ellender
See Me Rolling by Lottie Jackson

A Year in the Woods by Torbjørn Ekelund
Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar

I’m still sort of reading these in that I have them sitting there with bookmarks in and I might go back to them…. Grounding I pick up from time to time and read a page or two, but I’m not really involved in any of them. Martyr! will be the next point of focus as it’s for the BookTube Prize finals, then the other two in my TBR. Then we will see.

Up Next

Clear by Carys Davies
Wandering Stars by Tommy Orange

Only two more BookTube Prize books to read this month! I’ve saved these two for last because Clear is very short and I read Tommy Orange’s debut novel, There There (sort of a loose prequel to this one) and it was very good, so Wandering Stars was on my TBR anyway and I already owned it rather than rushing to read from the library before due dates!

That was my last two weeks! In other news I watched the film of The Thursday Murder Club which just came out on Netflix and really enjoyed it, so if you’re a fan of the Thursday Murder Club book series, it’s worth a watch – or if you’re just looking for a fun, witty, twisty cosy mystery film, it will definitely fit the bill!

What did you guys read this week? Have you watched The Thursday Murder Club? Have you read any of my books?

A weekly post that encourages bloggers to share what they have read in the past week, what they’re currently reading and books they’ve recently added to their TBRs. Originally started by Sheila at Book Journey, it is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date. I also link up with The Sunday Salon post each week hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz (and sometimes include some of her content prompts).
