WEDNESDAY BLOGGING CHALLENGE | AUTHORS I WISH MORE PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT

Hmmm. I’m sure there are lots, but because I read what I read, I tend to find others who read similar things and then it feels like people know about the authors I love, if that makes sense! There are a few that maybe aren’t as well known, but I could be wrong…

Friends of Dorothy by Sandi Toksvig
Grounding by Lulah Ellender
The Year I Met My Brain by Matilda Boseley
The Lie of the Land by Amanda Craig

Sandi Toksvig is, obviously, very well known as a comedian and television personality. But I don’t know if as many people know that she writes, and in particular that this novel, Friends of Dorothy, is so good. I loved it. Lulah Ellender and Matilda Boseley’s books I couldn’t get easily in Canada. The former is British and the latter is Australian, so likely their work is easier to get in their own countries, but both of these books are ones I’ve really enjoyed in the last year. The Year I Met My Brain in particular is one I’d recommend as the best memoir/non-fiction book about ADHD in adult women that I’ve found so far. It includes lots of the important factual information and research, but also shares her own experiences. It’s beautifully balanced and engagingly written – she is a journalist who writes for The Guardian, after all – but it’s been the best resource I’ve found so far. And Amanda Craig is fairly well-known, particularly in the UK I think, but I don’t know if she’s as big of a name over here in North America. But she really should be. Her novels are just brilliant – the characters are raw and real, her stories have good twists and complexity, and all of her books have social commentary and incisive political criticism, all written into the fabric of her stories. She’s funny, super smart and her books always leave me with so much to think about. I feel like she should get more prize recognition, because she is a master of her craft.

That’s me for this week! Which authors did you choose this week? Have you heard of any of my picks?
