WEDNESDAY BLOGGING CHALLENGE | LESSONS I LEARNED FROM A BOOK CHARACTER

This is a tough one, because it’s hard to pick a specific character. I feel like reading in general has taught me so many important lessons, and most of those lessons were brought to me by several different characters from different books by different authors at different times. So I’ll list a few, but there are definitely more examples of books that taught me each of these things!

From Anne Shirley (Anne of Green Gables) I learned to always look for beauty in the world around me.

From Anne Frank (The Diary of a Young Girl) I learned that we are able to survive impossible things, and remain good in the face of evil.

From Scout Finch (To Kill a Mockingbird) I learned the importance of standing up for what’s right and judging people on their actions rather than rumours and prejudice.

From Matilda Wormwood (Matilda) I learned that it’s important to stand up for yourself and others, even if it’s against a bully who is bigger, tougher and older than you. I also learned that families are not always biological, and that things can (and usually do) get better.

From Hazel Grace (The Fault In Our Stars) I learned that you have to live for this moment, because tomorrow is never guaranteed. And we miss so much if we’re just focused on the future and forget to live right now.

From Trixie Belden I learned that it’s okay to have interests outside of your prescribed gender role and that it’s fine to put function over fashion.

There are so many other lessons I could have included, because reading has taught me so many thousands of things. A lot of my own opinions and views on life and various parts of it I have come to because of the way reading has showed me so many different ways of thinking about things, and allowed me to figure out which I agreed with. Reading is a hugely important part of making me who I am, and I’m so grateful for the wonderful characters and authors who have shared their experiences and thoughts with me!

What about you guys? Did you have any of my picks on your list this week? Was there one character that immediately jumped to mind when you read this prompt?
